first impressions: jamberry

If I pride myself on one thing, it’s that I always make sure to have well manicured hands. As a little kid, I was always told that manicured hands made you look well composed and like you had your stuff together. Even  as an adult, I’ve made notice that I tend to make first impressions based on someone’s hands. (It’s a weird thing, I know!)

Recently, a friend of mine, Chelley, reached out to me to test out Jamberry, or often referred to as those gorgeous nail wraps everyone on your social media pages has. In the past, I had tested out a free set of wraps she sent me, but I think I applied them on wrong, which is why I usually just stay within my nail lacquer lane.

However, I’m always down to try new beauty things, so I figured Hey, why not?!

Here’s what Chelley sent me:

  • Jamberry Catalog
  • Nail Lacquer in Cardinal
  • Ultra Shine Top Coat
  • Cuticle oil
  • Nourish Moisturizing Hand Creme
  • Jambeauty matte liquid lipstick in Daredevil

Here’s a further break down on each individual items:

Nail Lacquer in Cardinal

Nothing says taking on the world like a fresh red mani and every nail polish collection deserves a gorgeous true red shade. This one quickly became my new favorite.

I love the peace of mind that Jamberry lacquers are 8-free, meaning that there’s no yucky gunk in there like formaldehyde, toluene, formaldehyde resin, camphor, ethyl tosylamide, TPHP, DBP and xylene. They also are cruelty-free for my animal lovers out there.

The nail lacquer wears up to 3-5 days, but I noticed that my manicure suffered minimal damage after close to a week, which is about the average wear of most of my polishes. This polish is also quick drying, which cut down that awful period of waiting around for your nails to dry.

With its wide brush, I notice that applying the polish was so easy. All it took was three swipes and the color was super opaque and truthfully, one coat would have been enough, but I wanted more coverage.

The only dislike I had about the polish was it stained my skin and nail after removal. When applying the polish, I did use a base coat I had from Essie and I used non-acetone on a cotton ball to remove it. I noticed the skin around my nail was tainted a reddish-pink for the next day, before using more remover and redoing my nails.

Ultra Shine Top Coat

A manicure won’t withstand the test of time without a top coat. Like peanut butter and jelly, this top coat completed my Cardinal red manicure and helped it last longer than its 3-5 day window.

I love for my manicures to look glossy, just as if I got a gel manicure. This top coat had a similar wide set brush, which made application easy peasy. If we’re being honest, I was paranoid to touch anything after doing my nails because of the unbelievable shine from the top coat! But rest assured, you’re good to go after 10 minutes.

Cuticle Oil

Only recently discovering the magic of cuticle oil and the overall effects it has made on the health of my nails, I was stoked to see Chelley send me Jamberry’s own.

One of my major concerns is that my nails peel easily and I love how this oil is packed with nourishing natural oils and Vitamin E to leave nails feeling hydrated and strong. After using consistently for a week, I noticed my nails didn’t feel as brittle.

I applied this before going to bed, though it suggests using once in the morning and at night.

In my discoveries, I’ve noticed that cuticle oils don’t always smell the best. I was more so confused on the scent of this one because it wasn’t the worst smelling thing, but it almost smelled nutty, like almonds. I didn’t hate it, but it definitely has a strong odor, so if you’re someone who’s sensitive to smells, use cautiously.

Nourish Moisturizing Hand Cream

This was probably my favorite thing in the bundle Chelley sent me because I’m always on the search for a good hand cream, especially when the temperature start to dip.

This cream is infused with argan oil and hemp seed, which helps deliver that moisture back to the hands that are weathered away from the cold temperatures.

The biggest thing I loved about the cream is that it didn’t leave my hands feeling greasy, but rather blanketed with nourishing comfort. It absorbed into the skin quickly, had a pleasant smell and left my hands incredibly smooth. I applied this before bed with the cuticle oil and really noticed a difference.

I will absolutely be purchasing the 4-ounce size of this to further test out!

Matte Liquid Lipstick in Daredevil

The main reason why Chelley sent me this package was to test out Jamberry’s new beauty line, Jambeauty!

The shade she sent me, Daredevil, is a gorgeous fuchsia shade that will be a major staple in the holiday season coming up. I couldn’t find a lot of information on the lipstick itself because it was included in a lip manicure kit on their website (But side note: how adorable is the name lip manicure?!)

I’m one of those weird people who take scents and fragrances into consideration, and I noticed this one as almost a candied smell to it. I’m not sure if it was intentional, but I have to say I’m here for it.

Off the bat, I’m not in love with the applicator but that’s because there’s no real structure to it. It’s not necessarily doe-footed, so I felt that I couldn’t really outline my lips. I also felt that the product was very goopy and runny, which meant it found itself on places it shouldn’t have been. So TAKE YOUR TIME when applying.

I did however, like how it dried down to a matte shade and didn’t budge once it dried. It withstood the eat/drink/kiss test, so it’s a good liquid lippie in my book. But be forewarned, if you don’t like your lips stained, then I advise not using a deep shade. Daredevil did stain my lips, but it left them a gorgeous berry color, so take it with a grain of salt.
