The blooms are starting and it’s time to reboot your beauty routine!
I spent the earlier portion of this month tuning up my resolutions and getting grounded in my goals and aspirations. After an awful month of excuses and complacency, I was ready to get back in touch with my motivation and what better way to do that than to fall in love with some new beauty products?!
This month, Birchbox hooked us up with things that will feed our mind, body and soul. A mattefying moisturizer, a natural deodorant and a powerful lip stain are just the start of revamping your favorites!
Here’s what was inside my Birchbox this month:
She is small, but boy is she mighty.
After gawking at how tiny and adorable the packaging was, I was completely blown away at how much pigmentation was hiding in this ‘sheer’ lipstick. When I opened it, I thought it would be more of a peachy hue, but I was (delightfully) surprised when I saw just how pink it actually is.
While doing my research, I realize that this lipstick is suppose to react to your body’s natural chemistry, delivering you with a customized color. So what might have appeared to be a sheer melon pink turned out to be more of a hot pink to me that I’m totally digging for spring.
Not only is the science behind it cool, it’s also packed with good stuff for your lips like olive and avocado oils. My lips have been going through some serious chaffing and they are constantly dry and flaking. This has been a perfect implement into my everyday makeup routine because it hydrates while not drawing crazy attention to something I’ve been self-conscious about.
I haven’t tested it out as a cheek stain just yet, and truthfully, I probably won’t only because we know how I feel about blushes.

When I first started heat-styling, I remember watching a tutorial on how to curl your hair and the guru said that it was SO IMPORTANT to use a heat protectant to keep your hair healthy. I was convinced that if I didn’t spray an entire bottle of CHI heat protectant on my head, all of my hair was going to fall out.
And then I went and dyed my hair every color under the sun. Twice. So it’s been a minute since I’ve actively used a bonafide heat protectant.
I had tested the Briogeo Rosarco Leave-In Conditioner and remember being a semi-fan of it, mainly because of its smell. This line legit smells like Fruity Pebbles and who doesn’t rosehip, argan and coconut oils to help hydrate your hair?!
I’m a big fan of this because I can throw this in my blow-dry cocktail and rest assured that my hair will be protected when I take any hot tool to my head. It dispersed nicely and left my hair feeling smoother.

I had a lot of high hopes when I opened this. I know in the back of my mind that mainstream deodorants are really not the best for you because of all the gunky stuff in there like aluminum and propylene glycol. I’ve been wanting to find an alternative, but when you wear men’s deodorant, that’s a daunting task.
Lavender isn’t usually one of my preferred scents but I know how many antiseptic properties it has and how it would actually be a good basis for a deodorant. I didn’t love the smell of this, which was very musky and almost sour smelling, but it did leave me covered and no one complained that I smelt bad so I took it as a compliment.
However, after wearing it for about a day-and-a-half, I noticed that my underarms were starting to become irritated. Whether it was because it doesn’t glide as smoothly as other deodorants or because my body didn’t like whatever natural ingredients there are inside, I was scared to continue to use it.

Last month, I received what I thought was a revolutionary product: a sunscreen setting spray. Apparently, these are here to stay and I’m all about it.
This setting spray has SPF 30 and helps leave the skin matte, combating shine and oiliness. With cucumber, aloe vera and hyaluronic acid, your skin won’t be parched once the sun starts hanging around. It also is water resistant for up to 80 minutes, acting as a legitimate sunscreen.
Like all COOLA products, this spray is cruelty-free, non-GMO and vegan.
If I’m being truthful, nothing about this setting spray really wowed me. It’s a good alternative to keep in mind once the weather breaks, but I won’t see this replacing my obsession with Urban Decay’s All Nighter.

Moisture and matte aren’t usually two words paired together, but ever since falling in love with the Origins’ Mattefying Moisturizer, I have been searching high and low for a cheaper alternative. I might have actually found a replacement for a favorite.
Off the bat, this gel moisturizer has a refreshing cucumber scent that is a perfect wake-me-up in the morning. It absorbs quickly into the skin and gives my skin a cool, fresh start before applying any makeup. Under makeup, it made an absolute difference in the dreaded shiny oil in my troublesome areas (my T-Zone, nose and chin) for the suggested eight hours.
While doing some research on Birchbox’s website, I noticed that this guy works overtime to tighten pores with active ingredients and ‘TheFluidactiv™ complex controls sebum production to prevent them from getting clogged’, helping fight future breakouts.
Something that not only makes my makeup application a breeze but something that also helps the overall health of my skin? Sign me up!
