Good riddance, summer.
This month’s Birchbox is all about sending off sweet summertime with some beauty products to help us enjoy the last of summer. Meanwhile, I’m over here rushing it out the door! It’s been a busy summer season and I am beyond ready to start cozying it up with pumpkin spice everything and fully involve myself in spooky time. I tolerate summer and I’m so ready to see it go!
A lot of this month’s products get us back to basics and help enhance natural beauty. There’s a citrusy face cleanser, a duo to help combat brassiness and an out-of-this-world lip gloss to spark up conversation.
Here’s what was inside my Birchbox this month:
This face cleanser from (MALIN + GOETZ) is serving up a triple-threat cocktail of goodness: It helps dissolve dirt and oil, clears acne and helps balance skin’s natural pH levels. Antibacterial grapefruit components exfoliate and helps prevent future breakouts, while glycerin and sodium PCA, or sodium salt of pyrrolidone carbonic acid, hydrates and leaves the skin soft and not stripped. (Did you know that sodium PCA binds moisture to the skins’ cells? Yeah, science!)
All science and nerdism aside, it’s a decent face cleanser. I love the refreshing citrus scent and felt that it helped brighten dull skin, along with all of its other claims. It said it was a foaming cleanser, but it didn’t foam up as much as I had anticipated. It’s not a major concern, but I prefer cleansers that leave me feeling squeaky clean, foam and suds included.
For what my opinion is worth, this cleanser is certainly not worth its price tag. There are plenty of other reliable cleansers for nearly a fraction of the price that I would rather spend my money on.

On the real, I had no idea what to expect from this guy when I opened this Birchbox. On the surface, it appeared to be a lightweight moisturizer, but it was everything more. This emulsion hydrates, mattifies AND treats acne, all while leaving the skin soothe and refreshed. In fact, consider using this as a spot treatment the next time you have a pesky pimple pop up. #alliteration
I’m already a big fan of Avene, but this might have sold me on becoming a convert. This lightly fragrant moisturizer is super absorbent, which simplifies my morning routine because I’m not waiting for products to dry. At first, I didn’t think it was anything to brag home about, but seeing all of its possible uses, it’s already saved in my cart.

Now normally, I would be pretty peeved about receiving a repeat product so soon, but in all honesty, I’m actually STOKED to get this again! This is a perfect travel-size and I will be packing this guy away in my suitcase.
Since discovering my obsession with this spray, my local Sephora has been sold out of the full size and rightfully so! I still have enough of the original sample I received and that should last me through the rest of summer.

This pinky oil-free primer helps makes the skin blurred perfection while adding a dose of hydration. It also says it’s suppose to help extend the life of your foundation, taking it from day to night for the last minute summer shenanigans.
I know I shouldn’t judge a product based solely on its sample component, but sometimes it’s really hard not to. This was nearly impossible to get out (without it exploding everywhere) and I felt I was wasting a lot of product because of that.
In all honesty, I wasn’t impressed on its formula either. It claimed to be oil-free, but noticed that my nose had that dreaded shine at 10:30 a.m. (when applying at 7:30 that same morning). It became so noticeable, I had to powder my nose to help absorb the oil, which is something I rarely do. My foundation wore decently, but I wasn’t a huge fan overall. I have my preferreds, and I’ll stick to them.

“Alexa, start playing Eiffel 65’s Blue.”
When I saw this in my Birchbox, I almost thought that they were playing and sent me Claire’s makeup! This blue glitter lipstick was giving me serious play makeup vibes and I was SO scared to test it, but I was so relieved I did.
This gloss is a shade-shifter and its glitter particles aren’t obnoxious, but rather, it adds dimension and creates the appearance of fuller lips. The blue transforms into a gorgeous pink hue that looks oh-so natural and not out of this world, like it would suggest. It’s very similar to Lipstick Queen’s Hello Sailor, but a lot more fun!
For glosses, it wore comfortably, like another Winky Lux gloss I’ve tested. I thought the glitter would be irritating, but they seem to melt into the lip and are hardly noticeable.

✨ BONUS PRODUCTS ✨
Since going blonde, it’s become an important part of my haircare routine to tone my hair at least once a week with a purple shampoo and conditioner. I’ve noticed that it truly has made a world of difference of preserving my color and extending the life between highlighting sessions. Side note: I haven’t had my hair colored since before leaving for Europe in June and my color is still holding up thanks to the addition of purple shampoo!
Already becoming a big fan of Oribe, I was excited to see bonus goodies in this month’s Birchbox, yet a little apprehensive because of how expensive they are! Secretly, I was hoping they didn’t work well so I wouldn’t be tempted by the idea of wanting them!
Joke was on me, because these two really brightened the blonde in my hair! The sample I received was just enough for a one-time use and I think with continuous usage, it would work perfectly to keep that ashy blonde I’m desperately trying to achieve.
