🙀 Scary-good beauty 💄
⏲ Read time: 5-7 minutes
Sephora’s calling me out on my sh!t. I’ve always been an advocate for the #SpookySZN, but time slipped past me this year and I didn’t think of getting fall-festive…
But luckily, Sephora is helping us with some inspo for some last minute looks: This month’s PlayBook is filled with some easy ideas like Light of the Party (or bathing yourself in highlight to resemble a disco ball) or the Masked Villain (rocking a sheet mask with some lip gloss to channel your inner Billy the Puppet from Saw). If you’re keeping it low-key or going full out, there’s plenty of products to get you in the holiday season.
All of these products work extremely well together. Last year, Sephora did something similar with a box that helped create the basic foundation for any of your looks, and I really hope that they keep this theme going each year. (I also love how they continue with the recyclable bags!)
Here’s what was inside my Sephora Play this month:
This full coverage foundation combats shine and blurs imperfections, while remaining lightweight and breathable on the face. It’s super long lasting (24 hours!) and is water-resistant, so don’t worry about it melting away.
I had high expectations with this one and it didn’t disappoint. With cooler temps approaching, I love fuller coverage that won’t budge, and my skin looks great from sunrise to sunset with this foundation. Plus, it blends with ease and doesn’t seem to pull when layered with contour/highlight.
Although, MUFE is a pricier brand, it’s well worth the money you invest. Time and time again, I’ve become obsessed with whatever foundation formula I test from them (and I’ve tested two here and here) and can see this becoming an option for when I need to switch up from my usual foundation routine. It’s a cheaper alternative, too!

Like a good glass of water first thing in the morning, this primer is suppose to wake your skin up with a dose of hydration. With the changes of pressure/temperatures, it’s even more important to make sure you’re hydrated!
Chocked filled with algae and marine plant extracts, this primer softens and smoothes the skin and hyaluronic acid brings moisture for more supple skin. Also, this primer acts as a protectant from environmental pollutants.
I was amazed at how quick-absorbing this primer is. It melts like butter into the skin and I could tell that my skin appeared visibly firmer after a one-time use. In all honesty, there isn’t anything to brag home about this primer, but it’s good at what it’s suppose to do. I don’t anticipate that it will replace any favorites, but it’s not a bad primer.

For roughly the past two years, this cleanser has been a staple in my travel bag. Once while in a pinch for a quick getaway, I threw it in my weekend bag and have compartmentalized it with vacation-mode ever since!
It’s important to grab products that can multi-task while away from home. This cleanser might be gentle, but it also tones, soothes and softens. Even though it’s gentle, this product works hard enough to remove stubborn eyeliner and mascara, so you can forget your makeup remover.
The combination of the soy and cucumber extract gives it a unique scent, that reminds me of something out of a spa, so even if I can’t fit in a facial on my vacation, it’s a little luxurious treat whenever I wash my face. As much as I like this cleanser for an everyday use, I like keeping this special for trips and vacations.

🚨 REPEAT PRODUCT ALERT 🚨 (Kind of.)
Remember that time that beauty subscriptions sent me this brow gel in back-to-back months and I wasn’t mad about it? Shortly after that, I heard a rumor that Benefit was discontinuing their Gimme Brow, and I was absolutely devastated…
But then, she got an upgrade!
I love this product because it delivers just enough of a color deposit on brows to not appear stark or too dramatic. Sephora sent me their lightest shade, which I was a little apprehensive about because I didn’t think it would look good. Having to constantly remind myself that I’m icy blonde, Light is the perfect amount to tame my brows for a gorgeous natural look.

While doing some research on Sephora’s website about this product, I learned a fun tidbit of information: “Vinoperfect Serum’s viniferine inhibits the production of tyrosinase, which in turn regulates the melanin leaving you with a smooth, more even tan.” Even though the sunlight is fleeting us, it’s good to know that it will maintain whatever tan I got this summer!
This serum also corrects dark spots such as acne scars, pigmentation, melasma, and sun spots, all while using natural ingredients that is 62 times more effective than Vitamin C! Talk about multi-purpose.
It’s always hard to tell how a serum performs on a first impression, but I could tell that with continuous use, it has the potential to be something that could aid with the little acne scaring I have. I like how it absorbed into the skin, its signature Caudalie scent reminds me of something that’s spa-quality, and there’s plenty in the sample that I would be able to tell if it’s worth investing in.

This is the second Maison Margiela perfume I’ve received from a Play box, but this one resonates a lot better with my body’s chemical balance. It’s a fresh fragrance that’s balanced with coriander for a little spice.
It’s a scent that I probably wouldn’t associate with the upcoming fall/winter season, but it’s fresh and light to make a signature scent. Sailing Day is a unisex fragrance, so share it with your partner if you’re interested and see if it smells different on them!
