sephora play: january ’19

⏲ Read time: 5-7 minutes

Hey baby, what’s your (beauty) sign?

Sephora Play is seeing into our beauty feature and serving us some beauty inspo using our horoscopes for the new year. A lot of this month’s fresh products are geared to get us on the right path.

I’m a Pisces, but I feel that I’m the most polar opposite from what a Pisces is suppose to be! They are notorious for getting lost in their boundless imagination and can spark creative outlets with ease, and we all know how much I’ve always struggled with my creativity resolutions.

Here’s what was inside my January Sephora Play:

Bite Beauty | Matte Creme Lip Crayon in Glace

Crayons aren’t only for kids.

This dusty mauve shade lippie from Bite Beauty offers a long and comfortable wearing formula that dries down to a matte finish. Made with orange peel wax, it helps retain moisture so your lips don’t crack or dry.

Admittedly, the orange peel wax gives it a distinct scent, which is pretty similar to other Bite Beauty products I’ve used in the past. It didn’t last all day with me and wouldn’t pass an eat/drink/kiss test,  but I was really impressed with the component and wouldn’t mind carrying it around.

Glace is a gorgeous shade that is similar to my natural nude, so it helps enhance and define my natural lips. I received a lot of compliments on it  and found myself grabbing it to complete an everyday look. It wears comfortably, but I don’t think it will be something I restock once my sample is done.

Belif | Aqua Bomb Sleeping Mask

Can a face mask address your concerns overnight? You better BELIF it! (I’m sorry, I had to.)

This jelly-pudding mask delivers the most intense hydration while you catch up on your ZZZ’s. Wake up with rejuvenated skin that’s supple and gives you a healthy glow. No more dull and tired skin, let this be your secret weapon in 2019. Don’t worry about this mask ruining your pillows, it ‘dries’ down and the moisture bomb explodes once you wash it away in the morning.

You may recall that I received a sample of this in my Gen Beauty swag bag. I had tested it out and surprisingly fell in love with it and had it on the back-burner of a wishlist, along with any other jelly-esque masks I could get my hands on. After re-testing it, I’m more apt to buying a full-size to help combat this dreaded winter dryness. My skin has been really patchy, while I’ve also been in the mindset of incorporating more weekly masks into my skincare routine. With the 50 bonus Beauty Insider points, it might be in the stars to splurge.

Sunday Riley | Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment

Normally, I’d be pretty irritated about receiving a repeat product in relative close proximity, but I’m never mad when it’s a Fave!

I admittedly have not been using this as much as I should and I’ve noticed a major difference in my skin. Those trouble areas (my chin and nose) have been cluttered with blackheads and I’ve noticed even more so when I stopped using it. After buying the full size during the holidays, this sample has been promoted to my carry-on bag so I can continue to keep up on my skincare routine on the road.

Completely unrelated, but major kudos to Sunday Riley for repackaging their trail size components: I love the needle-point applicator so I’m not wasting product!

BEAUTYBLENDER | blendercleanser solid pro

It’s no secret that I’ve been (extremely) obsessed with Marie Kondo and decluttering/cleaning my entire life. But, let’s not fool anyone: cleaning makeup brushes is a literal chore that no one likes to do.

I am the WORST when it comes to staying on top of cleaning and sanitizing my brushes. I’m lucky if I deep-clean my brushes once every quarter.. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I am a big fan of the Cinema Secret cleaner and I more often than not opt to use that in place of actually cleaning them, but it’s been a minute since I’ve found a brush cleanser I’m happy with.

This product is incredibly easy to use: Wet the brush, run it over the charcoal-infused soap and rinse until clean. I was a little skeptical at first because the idea of using soap was off-putting, until I got to my MODA full face brush that hasn’t been ‘clean’ since I got the set so long ago. This soap melted ALL the foundation residue and left my brush so squeaky clean, I couldn’t believe it.

A reason why I hate washing my brushes is because it takes f o r e v e r. This soap rinses quickly and I washed all of my brushes within 30 minutes!

Drunk Elephant | Lala Retro Whipped Cream

A treat for your face: whipped cream!

This heavenly whipped moisturizer offers a pack of hydration with six rare African oils that nurture and relieves irritation. My skin has been dreadfully dry with the winter air New York  has been receiving and no matter what I do, it seems as if it can’t get enough moisture.

Drunk Elephant is one of those brands I’ve noticed has a cult-following, so to speak. I know plenty of people who swear up and down their products, but the small handful of items I’ve tested out, I can’t say I was completely blown away. I like this moisturizer on a first impression, but it’s not to say that with continued use, I’ll notice immediate results.

MARAJO | Nourishing Cleansing Cream & Deep Treatment Butter

We already know that I’m not the biggest fan of receiving shampoo and conditioners as my bonus product in Play bags, but new year, new me, right?

MARAJO is a brand I had never heard of before, but figured I’m always in the market for haircare that’s hydrating and also filled with good things for my hair.

However, this duo didn’t do a whole lot for me. It’s not to say that my hair didn’t feel refreshed or didn’t have noticeable volume, it just didn’t impress me. It felt like every other shampoo and conditioner that I’ve long-forgotten about..
