Unless you’ve been living under a rock, the whole world has been rocked with the novel coronavirus pandemic, which has forced a lot of us to stay home and start practicing social distancing. March has been a really weird time for all of us and just take solace in the fact that you’re not alone in these trying times. (Also note, if you ever need a friend or want someone to talk to, my DMs are always open)
March is my birthday month and I was really fortunate to celebrate my 27th birthday before the world basically shut down. It was a low-key birthday, because I’m someone who never has liked making a big fuss for my day and it was really enjoyable to grab drinks with some friends after work and have a great family dinner of chicken parm and lasagna with one of my best friends.
Since I have a lot of time on my hands now, I’ve been changing perspectives and doing a lot of self-reflection. One thing that’s been apparent is that I no longer can make excuses and can really focus on the things that I want to accomplish, like pumping out content! I took the time to actually think about what direction I want to take this website and my Youtube channel and it’s giving me a lot to be excited about, especially in this weird time.
Here were some of my favorite products this month:
Victoria Emerson Leather Wrap Bracelets
Admittedly, I have never been the most accessorized person. I like to take pride in my appearance and how I look, but have never been one to know how to take an outfit to the next level. The past few months, I have discovered some lovely ladies on IG who have completely inspired me to perhaps find a new niche and step out of my comfort zone when it comes to fashion.
One thing that I kept seeing influencers talk about were Victoria Emerson wrap bracelets. They’re handmade leather wrap bracelets that are affordable and their website seems to always be running deals, so sign up for their email listing! I originally picked up two bracelets but then splurged on their Neutral Party Box, which came with five wraps valued at over $200 for only $70!
I grab a VE wrap almost daily, sometimes even pairing as many as three! They are super durable, don’t come unraveled and they don’t pinch or irritate my skin. My favorites are the Fresh Water Pearl on Ivory single wrap and the Champagne Crystals and White Jade on Ivory (both of which I unfortunately can’t find on the website).
St. Tropez Self-Tan Purity Vitamins Bronzing Water
I won’t spend a lot of time reviewing why this made my favorites since I dedicated a whole blog post to it. One thing is for certain, I won’t be down in the dumps in this quarantine with dry, pale skin!
Kristin Ess Rose Gold Temporary Tint
Like most females, when I feel stuck or anxious, I too want to do something drastic, like color my hair an unnatural color… But before my hairdresser murders me, it’s only temporary!
I impulsively picked this product up at Target because to be honest, I don’t remember why. I think it was one of those Target trips where I blacked out and spent a LOT more money than I probably should have… I’ve used it a handful of times, sparingly because I was too scared to actually commit to rose gold hair.
Since being in quarantine, you might say I’ve gone a little stir-crazy and coated my entire head with this, and wound up LOVING the results. If you follow me on IG, you might have seen my Instastory where I showed off my new locks. I received SO many compliments on it, and it made me wish that I had another bottle lying around. However, it has sparked my interest in playing with semi-permanent hair dyes while locked down because if I mess it up, no one will see me for at least a month 🤷🏼♀️ #silverlining
Kitsch Satin Sleep Scrunchies
I’m really guilty of wearing my hair in high ponytails, which causes a lot of breakage. I found these scrunchies at my Marshall’s on clearance and they have become an absolute staple in my life.
They’re made of satin, so there’s no pulling or snagging on the hair and they slide right out. Plus, I’m obsessed with the blush color for spring when I just wear them on my arm.
I plan on doing a full post dedicated to this in the future (since clearly I have nothing better to do). But since being home full-time, I decided to take my skincare routine a lot more seriously. Following this regime for a week consistently, I noticed my trouble areas cleared up and I don’t have stubborn pimples, despite eating like total trash. Here’s a rough snapshot of what I do:
Cleanse | Tone | Eye cream | Moisturize | SPF
Sunday: Cleanse | Exfoliate | Tone | Sleep eye mask | Sleep mask
Monday: Cleanse | Tone | Serum (use jade roller) | Sleep eye mask | Moisturize
Tuesday: Cleanse | Clay mask | Tone | Sleep eye mask | Moisturize
Wednesday: Cleanse | Exfoliate | Tone | Sleep eye mask | Sleep mask
Thursday: Cleanse | Tone | Serum (use jade roller) | Sleep eye mask | Moisturize
Friday: Cleanse | Tone | Sheet mask | Sleep eye mask | Moisturize
Saturday: Cleanse | Tone | Serum (use jade roller) | Moisturize
Intangible Item: “Stuck” in Quarantine
I think this one is more of a forced favorite than anything else, since, well, I don’t have a choice in the matter! But instead of being Negative Nancy about the whole ordeal, I’ve been taking some time to change my perspective about the situation.
Every month, I take my Erin Condren planner and map out a snapshot, usually taking the blank notes page at the start of the month to highlight things I’m grateful for or jot down some affirmations I need to remind myself. I started April really bitterly, thinking about how I was going to be stuck at home for the entire month and how much it would set me back in various aspects of my life.
The biggest reminder I needed in that moment was to be patient and to be thankful for the positives I do have, like the fact I’m still working from home and that my family and friends are healthy. This is an incredible time to break down all bad habits I’ve established, all excuses I’ve made because I’m “too busy” to do things and I’m able to bring it all back to ground zero and rebuild myself.
It’s frustrating not being able to see Brandon or have a girls night, and it’s even more infuriating not being able to go to the gym to work through these feelings of anxiousness and uncertainty, but if I learn anything through this quarantine, it’s going to be a new sense of appreciation for all the things we took for granted. This time is allowing me to focus on the relationships I want to flourish, selfishly work on me to create those keystone habits and become who I want to be with no interruptions.
